Sabelt SIM 5-Point Harness

The Sabelt SIM 5-Point Harness adds a fifth strap between the legs to the 4-point harness. This so-called crotch strap stops the lap belt from riding up under heavy deceleration – in motorsport it is the reason why a 5-point system is considered the more professional configuration.

What the fifth strap does

With a 4-point harness, only friction keeps the lap belt in place. As soon as things get serious, it creeps up towards the stomach. The crotch strap pulls it down and holds it where it belongs: on the pelvis. Your body is noticeably better guided in the seat, and that is exactly what increases immersion.

Designed for belt tensioners

Sabelt explicitly lists the 5-point harness as suitable for use with belt tensioner systems. That is the real reason the extra cost over the 4-point harness pays off: a tensioner such as the Qubic System QS-BT1 pulls on the belts under braking, and only the five-point configuration transfers this force cleanly instead of pulling the lap belt upwards.

Webbing from motorsport

Sabelt has been building restraint systems for motorsport since the 1960s. Webbing, materials and components are derived directly from the brand's racing harnesses. For sim use only the FIA homologation is dropped, which would serve no purpose without a car anyway.

Fits seats without a pass-through

The harness can be mounted on a wide range of cockpits and seats – including seats without their own opening for the crotch strap. That is not a given with 5-point harnesses and saves you from wondering whether your existing bucket seat is prepared for it at all.
